Team 385 build outline detailed
final parts l;ist chosen based on performance. 1,250 cfm dominator flange
holley, victor dominator flange intake, 2" spacer, hooker 6021 CJ flange
super comps 2 1/8" primarys with a 3 1/2" collector of about 8" long. Yella
terra shaft mounted roller rockers which eliminated the need for a stud girdle
and guideplates Springs needed to maintain valve train control wer about 140
seat and 400+ over the nose. Distributor was locked out at 32 degrees total
and no power or torque was found plus or minus. Can ran best installed at
the recommended 106 degree centerling.. We used a mezier electric waster
pump and our pistons were coated with ceramic dispersent on the crown,
dry film lubricant on the skirts and pin / pin boss. the underside was coated
with a heat dispersent Pistons were the K&B 137 Hypereutectic flat top sith a
single eyebrow and another cut for the SCJ's reloctated intake valve.
A standard volume oil pump was chosen the save a few precious
HP. A HV unit migh be better for longevity's sake. Dave also
restricted oil to the passange side oil passage to keep oil outof the top
end.
Chambers wer milled to 69 CC's . A
1018 felpro head gasket with the pistons
at .001" below deck showed slight piston
the head contact on the spark plug side
quench pad. This was with eagle SIR "I"
beam rods.
Final testing showed about
630 HP at 6,400 RPM and 576
pound feet at 4,900. Averages
per the contest were about
1040.
We also use a fox body swap pan from
moroso. incorperating a crank scraper
and a screen windage tray.,The pan
capacity was 8 quarts and when ran with
6 quarts the pan drained and oil pressure
got funkey.

One final surprise during actual
testing at the Memphis Dyno
was the volumetric efficiency
figures we were getting. In
excess of 107%
As some of you are well aware some of the components used
here were used simply for the dyno numbers. In reality you will
find that for street driveability or best track performance other
pieces might work better. One example is the carburettor. A
holley 950 HP is probably a much better choice for a street ride
than a dominator. Testing in the actual vehicle will determine
what is best in each scenerio.
